Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Humiliation

Arne Slot acknowledged that it was understandable for questions to be raised about his position after another heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in twelve games, representing the team's poorest run after being relegated in 1953-54.

They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at their home ground.

“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received plenty of support from management,” Slot commented.

“It's important to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it's typical that questions are asked.”

He noted, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to expand on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach revealed:

“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they back me.”

He mentioned, “During our regular exchanges I sense the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so let’s see.”

Persistent Issues and Player Response

Slot highlighted familiar shortcomings from his squad in their European defeat, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.

“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder stated.

“It is not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the words.”

He continued, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched this club all my life.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a spell of this nature with performances this poor.”

He finished, “However we still have the crest on our shirts. And until that badge is gone, we'll continue to compete.”

“Our aim is to bring this squad back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”

“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
