Brian Eno Calls On Backing to Get Palestinian Solidarity Lullaby to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to launch a Palestinian lullaby to the peak of the festive singles chart. The campaign hopes to send support to Gaza's residents while also showcasing Palestinian cultural expression.
A Possibility for Support and an "Chart Upset"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to stand with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He noted the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“That would be amazing if that happened, yes,” he stated. “I won't be completely disheartened if it doesn’t, Christmas singles are a thing unto themselves.”
Powerful Theme of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the adaptation of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's defiant core message.
“It has a deeply meaningful spot for a lot of people,” Barghouti shared. “The message is that I would rather die in dignity than live a life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we want to live a life of dignity that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Recording Origins and Star-Studded Lineup
The single was laid down following a solidarity show held in late summer. Originally intended to be performed and recorded live, the performance was shelved during the concert due to time constraints.
The impressive roster of musicians contributing to Lullaby includes a group of prominent voices from the music world. All participated in the September show, which managed to collect a substantial amount for charitable causes.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was produced by a team of producers and composers. The song features a combination of the heritage language with freshly written English words.
The group managing the project have stated that their objective is to raise as much as possible for a charitable pot. These donations will be distributed to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an established charity.
“We don’t have a fixed goal,” a spokesperson explained. “We’ll go for as much as possible. Naturally, the greater the amount, the better. It all goes out to the people of Gaza.”
The context in the territory was characterized as its extreme devastation, with a vast majority of property said to be in ruins or severely impacted.
“In that context, a few million doesn’t make that much difference. But I think the significant factor is first of all spreading knowledge of this plight and proving the human dimension of the story.”
The track is scheduled for release this Friday. Additionally, a video of the solidarity show will be made accessible to view on a popular streaming site from the 19th of December.
