Armed assailants have taken the life of an instructor and seized a minimum of 25 learners in an raid targeting a female high school in the northwestern part of Nigeria, police reports indicate.
The criminal group breached the comprehensive secondary school for girls in Maga, Kebbi State at approximately 04:00 local time on the beginning of the work week, authorities reported.
The armed individuals "confronted officers on duty in a firefight" before breaching the school's outer barrier and taking the pupils captive from their hostel, according to a statement.
An educational worker was killed while trying to protect the students. An additional employee received firearm injuries and is now undergoing medical care.
