Following a pivotal victory at the Lusail Grand Prix, Max Verstappen has substantially reduced the margin in the title race. Now sitting just twelve points behind leader McLaren's Lando Norris and ahead of teammate Oscar Piastri, everything is in place for a thrilling three-way championship battle at the famous Yas Marina Circuit.

Verstappen's most recent win was anything but straightforward. The incredible part of this late-season charge so impressive is the margin he has recovered. After the Zandvoort round in August, he was a staggering over a century of points behind the championship leader Oscar Piastri and had publicly written off his championship hopes.

The reversal began with major technical upgrades introduced by Red Bull at the Italian Grand Prix. Changes to the car's floor and aerodynamic package solved long-standing balance issues, allowing the driver to feel comfortable with the chassis once more.

Following those upgrades, his form has been completely spectacular, securing a quintet of triumphs and several top-three finishes. He was eager to credit the teamwork behind this comeback.

"We've won races where maybe it seemed unlikely, through the right call as a group," he explained. "My collaboration with my race engineer and the whole team... we are deeply connected."

The Stakes for a Historic Decider.

Ahead of the head to Abu Dhabi, the championship picture is crystal clear.

• Lando Norris can secure his debut world title if he outpaces both Verstappen and Piastri or secures a top-three position.
• The challenger must win and hope that Norris is not in the top three.
• Oscar Piastri, trailing by 16 points, must also win and witness Norris end up no higher than sixth.

The spotlight now shifts on the papaya-colored cars, who have seen a sizable lead evaporate due to unfortunate events, including a double disqualification in Las Vegas.
