The President Invites Families of Injured National Guard Members to White House
Former President Trump announced on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the executive mansion.
He noted that he spoke to her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Details on the Devastating Incident
Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a violent incident on last Wednesday in DC.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in grave state.
Memorials across West Virginia have taken place in their memory.
White House Invitation
The commander-in-chief explained he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both members of the West Virginia Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a hard experience, arrive at the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” the president informed the press. “And in the same way with him, recover or not.”
Public Support
Mourners came together over the past few days at Webster County high school in West Virginia to remember Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been working with the military unit as part of the president’s national effort to assist policing efforts in Washington DC.
Paying Tribute to Beckstrom
“Sarah was the individual that educators desired. She conducted herself with calm resilience, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of Beckstrom’s alma mater, stated to the Associated Press. “She was sweet, considerate and always eager to help others.”
Memorial arrangements for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Legal Steps and Policy Changes
Law enforcement have charged a 29-year-old Afghan national with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of violent assault while armed.
The event prompted the government to suspend asylum applications and temporarily stop providing visas to owners of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of the Airman
Andrew Wolfe, a native of the city, started his military career in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, per the Associated Press.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi told a news show that she aimed to visit his relatives.
Memory of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from her high school in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, working as a MP with honor, per the military.
“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had bravery,” the governor informed the audience at the service. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has made an impact that’s going to last forever.”
