The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Their recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
