Toronto Blue Jays Earn World Series Matchup Versus defending champion Dodgers
George Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros securing the championship in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their maiden championship series after the 1993 season by defeating the Mariners in the final game seven of the AL Championship Series.
Behind by two runs, Springer smashed a three-run blast in the seventh inning, propelling the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series win in the series. Next up are the Los Angeles Dodgers, holders of the defending champions, in the forthcoming championship.
"I'm just so happy for our team, Toronto, our country," Springer stated, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "What an incredible feeling."
The veteran has now connected for twenty-three playoff homers, making him third all-time behind Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).
"It's hard to imagine another person in the world that I'd prefer in that situation other than him with his post-season brilliance," remarked Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Seattle, after leading the early in the series, are still the sole team never to appear in a Fall Classic.
Wilson said "certainly that it's going to sting" after his team's loss at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their efforts this season.
"They're an exceptional squad. Unfortunately that we had to come out on the wrong side of the series," he remarked.
Toronto claimed the championship on their two prior appearances in 1992 and 1993, and will host the Los Angeles in game one on Friday.
